This document is submitted in support of the proposal for a new output to amend the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS) and to revise the Code of Safety for Nuclear Merchant Ships (resolution A.491 (XII)) in order to update the current requirements for the design, construction and operation of self-propelled merchant ships with nuclear power plants (NPP) and also for the purpose of extending their application to non-self-propelled nuclear floating power units (FPUs) to regulate the safety of FPUs. The document contains an overview of the FPU projects of different countries.
