International Maritime Organization (IMO) – Maritime Cyber Security

The upcoming meeting of the International Maritime Organization’s Maritime Safety Committee, scheduled from the 18 to 27 June 2025, will address a range of critical issues relating to maritime cybersecurity.

Several key documents have been submitted for discussion, including proposals for a goal-based approach to developing cybersecurity standards for the maritime digital ecosystem, guidelines for cyber resilience in emerging technologies, and recommendations for enhancing cybersecurity standards for ships and port facilities. Other submissions focus on the need for specialised training courses to improve cyber risk management capabilities and the provision of revised guidelines on maritime cyber risk management, addressing updated governance functions and definitions. Collectively, these documents reflect a concerted effort to strengthen the cybersecurity framework across the global maritime sector, with input from a wide range of international contributors and stakeholders.
