IMO Maritime Safety Committee 108th Session (MSC 108)

The 108th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 108) was held at the International Maritime Organization headquarters in London, from the 15 - 24 May 2024. Representing the World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) were Capt. Simon Chaplin (WNTI), Scott Edwards (Core Power), Unni Einemo (Core Power), and Mikal Boe (Core Power).

This session held significant importance for WNTI, as the organisation presented two crucial submissions: MSC 108/INF.21, titled ‘WNTI – Gap Analysis of the Code of Safety for Nuclear Merchant Ships,’ and MSC 108/108/5/4, containing WNTI’s comments on MSC 108/5. Unni Einemo has provided a comprehensive report detailing the discussions that took place in both the Plenary sessions and in Working Group 2, which focused on ‘Development of a Safety Regulatory Framework to Support the Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships Using New Technologies and Alternative Fuels.’ WNTI Members can download this report below.
